Deep Oscillation (HIVAMAT).

Deep Oscillation — typically delivered via the HIVAMAT 200 device — is an electrostatic oscillation technology used by physiotherapists for post-surgical edema, fibrotic tissue, and lymphedema management. It is well-regarded in European clinical settings but remains relatively uncommon in general wellness practice due to device cost and training requirements.

Also known as: HIVAMAT 200, DEEP OSCILLATION therapy, electrostatic oscillation
30–60 min session $120–200 per session
I. The technology in plain terms

The HIVAMAT device generates a low-frequency electrostatic field between the therapist's gloved hand and the patient's skin. The field causes gentle oscillations in the subcutaneous tissue — much deeper than topical massage — without mechanical pressure. The effect is described by practitioners as 'mobilizing fluid three to four centimeters below the skin surface with no pressure at all,' which is useful in acute post-surgical settings where pressure is contraindicated.

II. Where deep oscillation is actually useful

Acute post-surgical edema (including the first 48 hours when manual pressure is contraindicated), post-lipo fibrosis, lymphedema management in sensitive patients, post-burn and post-trauma scar management, and fibromyalgia pain management. It is the modality of choice when manual drainage is appropriate in principle but the patient cannot tolerate even light pressure.

III. Who is qualified to deliver it

HIVAMAT training is typically delivered to licensed physiotherapists or occupational therapists as a continuing-education module. In most jurisdictions, it is not part of base massage or spa training. A clinic offering deep oscillation should employ a licensed PT or OT with specific HIVAMAT certification.

IV. Typical session length

30 to 60 minutes. Often combined with manual MLD in the same session: the deep oscillation component may be 15 to 25 minutes focused on the treatment area, with manual drainage opening and closing the protocol.

V. What you pay and why

$120 to $200 per session in US clinical settings, €80 to €140 in Europe. The device cost ($8,000 to $15,000) and the PT/OT training requirement push prices higher than general MLD. Availability is limited to clinical practices and select aesthetic clinics — most wellness spas do not offer it.

VI. What The Editors would ask

Are you a licensed physiotherapist or OT, and do you hold HIVAMAT certification? How long have you offered the modality? Is this standalone or combined with manual drainage? What conditions in my case make deep oscillation a better fit than conventional MLD?
