Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage.

Brazilian lymphatic drainage — most commonly associated with the Renata França method and other Brazilian schools — is a post-aesthetic-surgery adaptation of classical MLD that became globally prominent in the 2010s as BBL and 360° liposuction became mass procedures. It is the technique most specifically associated with post-BBL recovery.

Also known as: drenagem linfática brasileira, Renata França method, post-op Brazilian drainage
60–90 min session $100–250 per session
I. The technique in plain terms

Brazilian drainage is firmer and faster than Vodder or Leduc — though still light enough to work within lymphatic pressure limits (around 40 mmHg) — and uses elongated strokes rather than the stationary circles of classical MLD. Sessions are more energetic and often visibly reduce swelling in a single appointment, which is why the technique built a strong consumer following.

II. Who should look for a Brazilian-drainage specialist

Patients recovering from BBL, 360° liposuction, lipoaspiration, or other body-contouring surgery are the primary audience. The technique was developed specifically for these contexts. It is less appropriate — and less effective — for lipedema, lymphedema, or post-mastectomy drainage, where the slower, more precise Vodder or Leduc protocols are the standard of care.

III. How to verify the credential

The Renata França method has a public directory of certified therapists (renatafranca.com/en). Other Brazilian schools (Método Leão, Método Vanessa Fernandes) have smaller but similarly verifiable directories. A certified Brazilian-drainage therapist should be able to name their school, year of certification, and whether they have specific post-BBL training beyond general drainage certification.

IV. Typical session length

60 to 90 minutes is standard. The Renata França signature method is 75 minutes and includes drainage plus a 'sculpting' component — which, for post-aesthetic-surgery patients, refers to gentle repositioning of edema, not pressure-based contouring.

V. What you pay and why

$100 to $250 per session in US cities, with Miami, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas at the high end. Pricing in Brazil is substantially lower (R$200 to R$500 per session), which is why many international BBL patients schedule their surgery in Brazil or Colombia specifically to access local drainage at source prices.

VI. What The Editors would ask

Which Brazilian drainage school are you certified with? What specific post-BBL training do you have beyond general certification? Can you describe what you will and will not do to the buttock area during the session? What is your protocol for the first 72 hours post-op versus weeks two to four?
